The Belismelis-Alvarez family has managed 15 separate estates in El Salvador for generations, totaling almost 900 hectares. Descending from Spanish settlers in the mid-1800s, they have carried on the tradition of coffee farm management with expertise and dedication. Their roots in the department of Santa Ana have provided a strong foundation for their passion and vocation in coffee production. From the 1880s to the 1930s, the country's coffee sector experienced immense growth, making it a main source of export and wealth thanks to the country's early embrace and investment in infrastructure. The family's operations are centered around the San Miguel mill in Ahuachapán, where cherries from their La Esperanza estate are sun-dried on the patios. Each day, their coffees are carefully tasted and profiled in the Antigua lab, resulting in larger exported lots.
